Helping Lake Highlands Directory
Lake Highlands is home to a large number of non-profits that are truly impacting the lives of those living in Lake Highlands and the neighboring communities. However, not everyone that needs help knows where to find it and not everyone that wants to help knows how to provide it. This is why we created Helping Lake Highlands. To help connect those who need help with those who can provide help.
Connecting Those in Need
The mission of Helping Lake Highlands is to help those in need find the resources they need in order to get the help they need to make a better life for themselves and their families.
Connecting Those That Want to Help
Another one of our initiatives is to provide information about how YOU can help! We live in a caring community looking for opportunities to volunteer and provide financial support. We want to be able to highlight volunteer opportunities available within Lake Highland’s non-profit community and to promote events and fundraisers being held in our community.
If you have a need or want to help, visit the Helping Lake Highlands Directory.

We must create a dynamic environment that attracts residents as well as businesses. If we want change, then we must support our local businesses now. As a community, we must create growth in our local business market. To restart a growth in the Lake Highlands business market, we have formed the Lake Highlands Chamber of Commerce. Our marketing campaign is centered around the message that “Lake Highlands is open for business.” We are here for our local businesses to help create a stronger business market.

With the support of our wonderful community over the last eleven years, almost $400,000 has been raised to benefit the Lake Highlands area.
Proceeds from the 2014 Run the Highlands were used to install an indoor play area at the Lake Highlands North Rec Center. This area is for children under age 5 and is an excellent venue for kids to play indoors. This indoor playground is the first of its kind in our area and we look forward to it being utilized by the Lake Highlands community!
Play Art Sculptures
In 2013, work began to create beautiful, playful art for the Lake Highlands North Recreation Center. The pieces started as large granite boulders which were shaped into animals and other interesting pieces that lend themselves to being enjoyed by people of all ages. We hope that this natural, kid-friendly art will be a delight in the Lake Highlands Community for years to come.

Who We Are
The Lake Highlands Women's League has been serving the Lake Highlands community since 1969. We currently have 100 active members and over 200 sustaining members. During the years the Lake Highlands Women's League has raised and distributed an impressive amount of money to some very worthy causes. The accumulated total of funds donated in college scholarships to Lake Highland seniors is over $1,687,000.00. The funds disbursed to other community organizations, school and capital projects is over $830,000.00, making our grand total of funds distributed over the last 46 years over $2,517,000.00! We are proud of our organization and the contribution we have made to the Lake Highlands community.
Who is Eligible to be a Member
Our membership is open to women who live within the Lake Highlands High School attendance boundaries as defined by the RISD. All prospective members must be sponsored by an active member of Lake Highlands Women's League.
What We Do in the Neighborhood
Our membership is committed to volunteerism and meeting the needs of our community. Each active member volunteers at least four times per year at one or more of our many service projects provided each year, returning over 800 service hours to our neighborhood. These opportunities range from mentoring/tutoring students in area schools to providing lunch and entertainment to volunteering in a free clinic to shelving books at the neighborhood school library.
The entire membership also is involved in our " Home Tour, Bazaar and Luncheon, which is held the first Friday in December. This is our only fundraiser, the "kickoff" to the Christmas season, and a wonderful neighborhood event! Last year approximately $180,000.00 was disbursed from LHWL for local student scholarships and community projects. For more information about our Home Tour, click on "Holiday in the Highlands".

Mommies In Need: Providing Childcare to Sick Mommies
Mommies In Need provides in-home childcare to stay-at-home parents going through a health crisis. We not only fund nannies for sick moms, but also provide them with someone who is vetted, background checked, CPR certified, and experienced in dealing with situations when a parent is suddenly ill. All completely free of charge to the families.
Past and Current families with their nannies at the Mommies In Need Family Playdate
As much as possible we send the same nanny to the same family for the entire duration of their contract with us (up to six months) and can help on a full-time or part-time basis. We also build community around these moms by encouraging the nannies to schedule play dates with each other, and by hosting all-family get-togethers with our past and present families and our nannies. These events are a chance for the kids to see the nanny that cared for them, and for our moms further down the recovery path to mentor those mommies who are currently in the worst of it.
In our first two years of operation, we have gone from having one nanny helping one family to having 3 or more nannies at a time working with multiple families and being able to proudly say that we have helped 14 families in Dallas with almost 6,000 hours of childcare! Thank you to all of our supporters for helping us give live-changing aid to these amazing moms.
